Florida Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged

Florida Public Transportation Association’s
2008 Legislative Program

1.      FPTA will support the indexing of Local Option Motor Fuel prices in a manner similar to the current indexing of the state tax.

2.      FPTA will oppose measures that seek to require certain farebox recovery rates because of the circumvention of local decision making and multiple roles and responsibilities of Florida’s public transit systems.

3   FPTA Will support measures that allow the Charter County Discretionary Surtax to be expanded to cover all counties, or all charter counties.

4.      FPTA will support increased funding for public transportation  through the flexibility provided by local option motor fuel, sales taxes, or taxes on rental cars.

5.      FPTA will support allowing counties to impose local option motor fuel taxes by a majority, rather than a super-majority vote, of the county commissions.

6.  FPTA will support measures relating to the Transportation Disadvantaged Program that treat all state agencies in similar fashion regarding exemptions from the Coordinated system, and other updates to the current statute.

7.  FPTA will oppose measures that mandate certain work breaks for bus operators as imposing on local management and control issues.
