Top “Tell Your Story” Entries All Entries / Carlos: "MetroBus Saved My Life" It was a fairly hot afternoon in the Gables. I just left the Coral Gables library and as I neared the bus stop to return home, I started to feel physically weak. I had just missed the bus so I had to wait. Even though I knew that the next bus was coming soon, for the transit system was always punctual, it felt as if time stopped. I was feeling weaker and weaker as the minutes passed. I sat and drank some bottled water- lukewarm. I stood and walked around a little just to gasp some air but soon found myself back on the bench. I grabbed my cell phone and called a relative but he was far off and could not pick me up. I was stuck; and ready to faint when the bus suddenly appeared before me. I stepped inside, slid my pass card on the console and told the driver, in a low tone, how I was feeling. The kind man instructed me to sit near him so I did as he requested. The driver, without ever going over the speed limit, rushed forward. The air conditioned bus made me feel ten times better. Once the driver, via his mirror, saw that my color has returned- I was pale and my heart was racing- called me. I rose and stood next to him. He ask me if I a diabetic. I answered, yes. The soft spoken driver admitted that he too suffered from the same disease. He handed me a large, chewable pill that he claimed he used when his blood pressure dropped. I took the table, placed it in my mouth and returned to my seat. Before arriving at my destination I felt a whole lot better thanks to the kindness of the driver. By the time I walked home from the bus stop I felt stronger. I was glad for such a considerable Metrobus driver. He helped me in my time of crises and I will never forget his kindness. I always knew the Miami-Dade Metrobus System for having such fine drivers serving our community everyday. Thank you! |
