All Entries / Mother and Kids Enjoy Public Transit Together

The first week of April, I was riding the tri-rail with my son and daughter. This particular day, we were headed northbound going to Fort Lauderdale as we do every weekday. I was basically in a BIG RUSH leaving my home and I usually feed my kids before we leave the house, so of course they were hungry.

When we arrived to the tri-rail/metro rail transfer station, my kids were begging me to go buy them something from the snack shop in the back of the transfer station. I saw that we had some time before the tri-rail came so I took them over and bought them something to eat. Before I realized it, the tri-rail was here and I got on it with out purchasing my ticket. Because of the person I am, I felt bad and I went to the security officer that was on the tri-rail at that moment and told him my situation.

He told me not to worry, what he would do is call ahead to the next security lady (Patty) and explain to her that there would be a lady (me) on board with two kids and has forgotten to purchase her ticket prior to boarding. He told me that she will give me a warning. I was so relieved because some of those security officers can be very NASTY when checking passengers and they have no ticket. So as the lady officer approached me on the tri – rail, my son said “mommy the police is coming,” and I said “ yes, she is coming to me because I forgot to buy the ticket before we got on the train,” and my son eyes got sooooo BIG.

He said “mommy I don’t want to go to jail can we get off to but a ticket please mommy.” I thought that was the funniest thing I had ever heard or saw. My daughter was scared and was looking as if she was about to cry. My son burst out and said “ Lord please help us not go to jail.” When the officer came and sat down she saw that they were scared and my son started asking her all kinds of questions. I was grateful that she talked to them in a way that calmed their spirits down from being scared. Now my kids love riding the tri-rail again. I thought this story was funny enough to share and make others laugh. If you feel that my story meets what you are looking for please call or email me.
