All Entries / Wayne Switched to Public Transit From an Arduous I-95 Commute, and Doesn't Plan on Going Back
I spent the first couple of years in my new job at the port of Miami trapped in the daily commute on I-95. Most mornings I arrived at work stressed and with a pounding headache from the congestion and fumes. One evening while driving home through a thunderstorm there was a crashing noise behind me. In my rear view mirror and on both sides of me I saw cars spinning like tops. Somehow I passed through unscathed, arriving home exhausted and shaken.
The next morning the traffic reporter announced that I-95 southbound was closed due to a serious accident. My morning commute would be measured in hours. Right then I made the decision to try commuting by Tri-Rail. What a refreshing and pleasant change! I never looked back.
It's been over two years of commuting by first Tri-Rail and now the I-95 Express bus. I now have two hours of my day back. I read, catch up on news, chat with my transit buddies, or listen to music. I arrive at work refreshed and I make it home each evening with energy to enjoy the rest of my day. My commuting time is now truly "me" time. I would not trade that found time for the perils of I-95.
