All Entries / Hilary Talks About How Transit Relieved Stress During a Tough Part of Her Life

About 9 yrs ago my life was on a downhill slide. I was so stressed my health was declining rapidly. I was living in a rat race and my body was turning against itself, I was losing the ability to function well and to enjoy life. I made the decision to give up the car and start taking the bus wherever I needed to go. I began to heal my mind and my body.

For the first time in a long time I was able to sit and read. I met many wonderful and interesting people, and I learned much from them. I am able to look and actually see changes that were taking place in my community that I never would have noticed if I had been driving. I watch and feel the change of seasons and used the time waiting for the buses to feel and breathe in my surroundings. I suddenly did not have the expense of a car, no gas, no repairs, no insurance, no more fighting traffic, no road rage, and rushing here and there.

I can save money and pay off debts so that I can hopefully buy a house in the near future. The drivers are awesome, they are friendly and actually care about their passengers. Since I walk to the bus stops I am satisfing my need for exercise, but the biggest benefit for me is the fact that by taking the bus I have my health back and  have found a sense of peace again and I have been able to start saving money. Public transportation has really given me a life.
