All Entries / Vicki Writes a Poem About Her Experience Using Public Transit

This is a true story.  I ride the Lake Express Bus from The Villages to the shopping centers and back.  The conversations while on the bus have been interesting but one is especially touching to me.  The lines of verse I have written will tell the story.   I hope others enjoy reading the story and riding the bus as much as I do.

"MORE THAN JUST A RIDE ON THE BUS"

When I learned about the Lake Express
I thought taking it would be less mess.
The benefits were in real disguise,
It was really great to my surprise.
All kinds of people boarded the bus
It is quite reasonable without any fuss.
For me it was sort of an investigation
The best part was not my destination,
But the joy I found on the way
Was meeting others with much to say.
Two others began to talk to me,
So we shared ideas very comfortably.
The driver inspired another to share
So we could feel joy everywhere.
The conversation turned to world events
Our bus was at peace for all intents.
Some traveled to a place to dine
And getting there was the best time.
A young man gazed into my eye
I could see he was a very serious guy.
Being a Senior, we were years apart
But he spoke a word straight from his heart.
He gently asked to give him my name,
I did and he parted without any shame.
He softly stated he had found some love
On that bus he was touched from above.
The driver was shocked, he opened the door.
We both knew we were leaving with more
Than we had when we boarded the bus,
Because this young man touched all of us.

True Story,
