All Entries / Group of Friends Loves to Take Transit Together

A group of us have been taking the 252 bus in the Park and Ride Lot of 117ave and 152st for the past five years

Our story started five years ago at the Park and Ride Lot at the Turnpike and 117th Ave.  Several of us use to drive to the Dadeland Station to catch the Metrorail, but due to heavy traffic and the cost of Sun pass, decided to take the bus.  The group consists of about a dozen persons from all walks of life.  Most work around the Civic Center area, and our group has become like a family.  I had never taken a bus to go to work, and at first found it very strange.  As the months passed we began to talk while waiting for the bus to arrive around 6:45am.  It was not long before we got to know our bus driver and the kidding and social interaction began to become a daily ritual.

Our experience has gone so well, that some of us have even given up one of our cars. We are saving money, helping the environment and forming long lasting friendships. In fact, we have all helped each other with our personal and professional challenges.  There has been illness, money , and psychological  needs, and our fellow bus buddies have come to the rescue.  In addition we have a lot of fun. It is like a “morning happy hour” without the liquor.

The bus drivers have been wonderful. They have also gotten to know us and laugh when they see us chasing the bus with our own cars or with the persons giving us a ride to the designated stop. As much as I use to like driving my car,  I would not give up the wonderful experience we have shared with all the persons we have met in the “252 Route”.
